Media Center Systems in Cairns

Posted by karlos

We have been involved in Windows Media Centre hardware and software since digital TV first came to Cairns.  Public TV is an utter pain to watch UNLESS you have full control over how you watch it and when you watch it.

There are many PVR's (personal video recorder) on the market but none as awesome as the Media Center softeware built into Windows 7 Home Premium and Ultimate.

Windows Extender - the best way to run a Media Centre system is to use the Xbox 360 as an extender and a PC as the Media Centre 'server'. The Xbox is a rock solid device perfect for the living room and you can plug it directly into your amp via an HDMI cable.

Check out these pre built Media Centre systems here and let us know if you want some advice or a quote on a custom built system.

Wireless Network IP Camera’s

Posted by karlos

Ip camera's have been around for a while but they havn't come down in price much, probably becasue they are just so damned practical.  They have built in software and a web server so you can just plug them into your network either wireless or via network cable. You can then set it up to be viewable on the web by port forwarding your modem and pointing to the camera's IP address. Whether its to keep an eye on your staff or secure your hotel or motel courtyard or even just to take a view of the weather like this one in Cairns.

This model is made for outdoor use and dark conditions. You can also power these via ethernet cable - Power Over Ethernet - which is a lot easier than paying a sparky to install a power supply next to the cameras location and you only need 1 cable for both power and network access.

Vivotek  IP7330 from $230.

The NBN? Nothing more than another media company.

Posted by karlos

Why does the average Australian broadband user need more speed?...  Becasue they have massive TV's which need to be used.

In responce to the NBN 'business' plan' the opposition have finally figured out the right argument.

“It’s pretty obvious that the main usage for the NBN is going to be internet-based television, video entertainment and gaming,” the Opposition leader added. “We are not against using the internet for all these things, but do we really want to invest $50 billion worth of hard-earned taxpayers’ money in what is essentially a video entertainment system?”
